I thought treating everyone the same was being fair and impartial. Gradually I began to suspect that it was neither fair nor impartial. In fact, it was just the opposite. That’s when I began announcing that team members wouldn’t be treated the same or alike; rather, each one would receive the treatment they earned and deserved.

Look to be treated by others as you have treated others.

Treat others as you would be treated. Devote yourself to that, for there’s no more direct approach to Humanity.

Treat all fairly or they will seek revenge.

To treat everyone equally is offensive, because it fails to recognize anyone as an individual.

If everybody really and truly treated each other the way they’d want to be treated, all the problems of the world would be solved. Nobody would starve, because nobody’d want to go hungry themselves. Nobody would steal, or kill, or hurt each other, because they wouldn’t want that to happen to themselves.

We must all be alike. Not everyone born free and equal, as the Constitution says, but everyone made equal. Each man the image of every other; then all are happy, for there are no mountains to make them cower, to judge themselves against.

How you treat the one reveals how you
regard the many, because everyone is ultimately a one.

Treat everyone with politeness and kindness, not because they are nice, but because you are.

You should punish in the same manner those who commit crimes with those who accuse falsely.

There is all the difference in the world between treating people equally and attempting to make them equal. While the first is the condition of a free society, the second means as De Tocqueville describes it, a new form of servitude.
