The world is crazy. Creative work is hard. Life is short and art is long.

The world doesn't make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do?

All great art has madness, and quite a lot of bad art has it, too.

For indeed when painters themselves wish to represent sirens and satyrs [20] by means of especially bizarre forms, they surely cannot assign to them utterly new natures. Rather, they simply fuse together the members of various animals. Or if perhaps they concoct something so utterly novel that nothing like it has ever been seen before (and thus is something utterly fictitious and false), yet certainly at the very least the colors from which they fashion it ought to be true.

Pardon My Sanity In A World Insane

To be sane in a world of madman is in itself madness.

The people of the heart — the painters, the poets, the musicians, the dancers, the actors — are all irrational. They create great beauty, they are great lovers, but they are absolutely unfit in a society that is arranged by the head. Your artists are thought by your society to be almost outcast, a little bit crazy, an insane type of people. Nobody wants his or her children to become musicians or painters or dancers. Everybody wants them to be doctors, engineers, scientists, because those professions pay. Painting, poetry, dance, are dangerous, risky — you may end up just a beggar on the street, playing on your flute.

Very often human beings don't become available for the purposes of art until they have shaken off some of their dogged, self-preserving sanity.

Real art has the capacity to make us nervous.

In the world of minor lunacy, the behavior of both the utterly rational and the totally insane seems equally odd.

Life is serious but art is fun!

While some may see them as crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they change the world, are the ones who do.

Dreams, if they're any good, are always a little bit crazy.
