People see what they wish to see. And in most cases, what they are told that they see.

When people realize they’re being listened to, they tell you things.

Humans see what they want to see.

We usually see only the things we are looking for- so much so that we sometimes see them where they are not.

My ears hear colors and my eyes see sounds.

They listen to hear, not respond.

I like to watch people. Sometimes I ride the subway all day and look at them and listen to them. I just want to figure out who they are and what they want and where they're going.

I hear and forget. I see and hear and I remember. However, when I see, hear and do, I understand and succeed.

What you see and what you hear depends a great deal on where you are standing. It also depends on what sort of person you are.

Listening leads us more inside ourselves whereas seeing leads us more outside — the work of seeing itself, that is. And, therefore, we will be far more blessed with eternal life by the power of listening than by the power of sight. The act of listening allows me to hear the eternal Word spoken with me, whereas sight leads me astray, to what is outside myself. In listening, I suffer (or allow); in seeing, I work.

But most of all, I like to watch people. Sometimes I ride the subway all day and look at them and listen to them. I just want to figure out who they are and what they want and where they are going. Sometimes I even go to Fun parks and ride in the jet cars when they race on the edge of town at midnight and the police don't care as long as they're insured. As long as everyone has ten thousand insurance everyone's happy. Sometimes I sneak around and listen in subways. Or I listen at soda fountains, and do you know what? People don't talk about anything.

When we observe or listen to other people, we often don’t see them clearly or really hear what they’re saying. We see and hear our projections and prejudices instead.
