Nothing in life is unfair. It's just life. To the extent that I had any inner turmoil, I had only myself to blame. I also thought of my two boys and what kind of example I hoped to be. I would always want them to take charge of their own futures and not be paralyzed by the comfort and certainty of the status quo or be cowed by the judgment of those on the outside looking in.

You know, I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe.

Life, I've learned, is never fair. If they teach anything in schools, that should be it.

Life is not fair; get used to it.

Not never.

There was neither good nor bad there. There were just facts. It was life.

Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not.

Life isn't going to be fair all the time, but everything happens for a reason. So trust your journey and, most importantly, believe that everything will work out in the end.

I came to the startling realization that if there really is no reason to do anything, then there is also no reason to not do anything; that in the face of the inevitability of death, there is no reason to ever give in to one’s fear or embarrassment or shame, since it’s all just a bunch of nothing anyway; and that by spending the majority of my short life avoiding what was painful and uncomfortable, I had essentially been avoiding being alive at all.

No one ever said life was fair. Just Eventful.

There was nothing in this world that was not a con, suddenly I understood this. Nothing really mattered, and nothing could be lost.

There’s no mystery about a human life. It’s not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.

Life is unjust and this is what makes it so beautiful. Every day is a gift. Be brave and take hold of it.
