It is not always necessary to search for the cause behind everything, because every cause is unfounded. A cause only looks like a cause from a certain viewpoint.

The complexities of cause and effect defy analysis.

[...] we can find no true or existent fact, no true assertion, without there being a sufficient reason why it is thus and not otherwise, although most of the time these reasons cannot be known to us.

Most known motives are so suspect these days that I doubt whether the hidden ones are any better. All the same,

the more uncommon often only mislead us so long as the causes of the more ordinary are still unknown;

It’s the ignorant who find a cause and cling to it, for within that is the illusion of significance.

I have no way of knowing whether the events that I am about to narrate are effects or causes.

Q: Yet, I cannot see how can anything come to be without a cause.

M: When I say a thing is without a cause, I mean it can be with-out a particular cause. Your own mother was needed to give you birth; But you could not have been born without the sun and the earth. Even these could not have caused your birth without your own desire to be born. It is desire that gives birth, that gives name and form. The desirable is imagined and wanted and manifests itself as something tangible or con-ceivable. Thus is created the world in which we live, our personal world. The real world is beyond the mind's ken; we see it through the net of our desires, divided into pleasure and pain, right and wrong, inner and outer. To see the universe as it is, you must step beyond the net. It is not hard to do so, for the net is full of holes.

Q: What do you mean by holes? And how to find them?

M: Look at the net and its many contradictions. You do and undo at every step. You want peace, love, happiness and work hard to create pain, hatred and war. You want longevity and overeat, you want friendship and exploit. See your net as made of such contradictions and remove them — *your very seeing them will make them go*

The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.

Reality is not always probable, or likely.

Cause Blindness is when we become so wrapped up in our Cause or so wrapped up in the “wrongness” of the other player’s Cause, that we fail to recognize their strengths or our weaknesses.

Whenever you place the cause of one of your actions outside yourself, it’s an excuse and not a reason.

Don’t let us forget that the causes of human actions are usually immeasurably more complex and varied than our subsequent explanations of them.

What can be described can happen too: and what the law of causality is meant to exclude cannot even be described.
