I also came away with a greater sense of value, because the true blessings of life are illuminated by the contrasts. It’s hard to genuinely appreciate winning until you’ve done some losing. It’s hard to appreciate succeeding until you’ve done some failing. And once you’ve done some failing, success takes on even more worth and value.

Life has more meaning in the face of Death.

So, by the working of a contradiction that was one only in appearance, it was at the very moment when I experienced an exceptional pleasure, when I sensed that my life could be one of fulfillment, and should therefore have seen it as having increased in value, that I felt liberated from the anxieties it had hitherto inspired in me, and was prepared to commit it without hesitation to the unsure hands of chance.

He made me see what Life is, and what Death signifies, and why Love is stronger than both.

Difficult times have helped me to understand better than before how infinitely rich and beautiful life is in every way, and that so many things that one goes worrying about are of no importance whatsoever.

it appears to me that I have discovered many truths more useful and more important than all I had before learned, or even had expected to learn.

Life becomes easier and more beautiful when we can see the good in other people.

The struggle of life is one of our greatest blessings. It makes us patient, sensitive, and Godlike. It teaches us that although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.

Each of them has come to realize that true meaning in life comes from giving.

And yet contrast is a beautiful thing. When you get around people who are playing the game of life at a higher level, you either get depressed, pissed off, or inspired.

One's life has value so long as one attributes value to the life of others, by means of love, friendship, indignation and compassion.

It has made me better loving you... it has made me wiser, and easier, and brighter. I used to want a great many things before, and to be angry that I did not have them. Theoretically, I was satisfied. I flattered myself that I had limited my wants. But I was subject to irritation; I used to have morbid sterile hateful fits of hunger, of desire. Now I really am satisfied, because I can’t think of anything better. It’s just as when one has been trying to spell out a book in the twilight, and suddenly the lamp comes in. I had been putting out my eyes over the book of life, and finding nothing to reward me for my pains; but now that I can read it properly I see that it’s a delightful story.

I constantly strive to learn and to make new and more powerful distinctions about ways to add value to other people’s lives.

Truth shines the brighter clad in verse.
