We like to think of our champions and idols as superheroes who were born different from us. We don’t like to think of them as relatively ordinary people who made themselves extraordinary.

Or that passion to act a part that sometimes makes us do things finer than we are ourselves?

الرجال يختلفون كثيرا عن النساء، إنهم زاخرون يتقديس الأبطال مناصرة لجنسهم. من الصعب أن تتخيل طاولة مليئة بالنساء يجلسن طوال ساعة كاملة يمتدحن ويتملقن امرأة اخرى، حتى لو كانت بطلة تفوق الرجل ثلاثة اضعاف.

Successfully (whatever that may mean) or unsuccessfully, we all overact the part of our favorite character in fiction.

But don't we all like to be overpowered, one time or another.

If we have any role at all, I think it’s the role of optimism, not blind or stupid optimism, but the kind which is meaningful, one that is rather close to that notion of the world which is not perfect, but which can be improved. In other words, we don’t just sit and hope that things will work out; we have a role to play to make that come about.

This is one of the cruelties of the theatre of life; we all think of ourselves as stars and rarely recognize it when we are indeed mere supporting characters or even supernumeraries.

Our duty, as men and women, is to proceed as if limits to our ability did not exist. We are collaborators in creation.

Our stories don't begin and end because men we once trusted have left them.

To strive too with our fate were such a strife
As if the corn-sheaf should oppose the sickle:
Men are the sport of circumstances, when
The circumstances seem the sport of men.

أهذا هو حال الشعراء يا رضوان؟ تروون حكايات الأبطال وتغنون على الرباب، فإذا جد الجد تقهقرتم إلى الجحور وأشعتم التردد والهزيمة؟! ألا لعنة الله على الجبناء!
