You know you love someone when you cannot put into words how they make you feel.

To be kind is more important than to be right. Many times, what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks but a special heart that listens.

The things you do not have to say make you rich.
Saying things you do not have to say weakens your talk.
Hearing things you do not need to hear dulls your hearing.
And things you know before you hear them — those are you,
Those are why you are in the world.

The way in which we say something is often more important than what we say.

Sometimes we know a person better than we can say, or at least than we do say.

The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them — words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear.

The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are things you get ashamed of, because words make them smaller. When they were in your head they were limitless; but when they come out they seem to be no bigger than normal things. But that's not all. The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried; they are clues that could guide your enemies to a prize they would love to steal. It's hard and painful for you to talk about these things ... and then people just look at you strangely. They haven't understood what you've said at all, or why you almost cried while you were saying it.

Doing the right thing is more important than doing the thing right.

Sometimes what goes without saying is best said anyway.

"When people say, 'You really, really must" do something, it means you don't really have to. [...] When it's true, it doesn't need to be said.

You're going to come across people in your life who will say all the right words at all the right times. But in the end, it's always their actions you should judge them by. It's actions, not words, that matter.

To know what people really think, pay attention to what they do, rather than what they say.

The most important thing in communication is to hear what isn't being said.

The most important things to say are those which often I did not think necessary for me to say — because they were too obvious.
