A member of the Democratic Party, she served as a US senator for California from 2017 to 2021, and as California's Attorney General from 2011 to 2017. Harris took office as vice president concurrent with the inauguration of Joe Biden as president in January 2021. She was the Democrats' nominee for president in 2024.
