There was a lot of halting and waiting, little acknowledgment, little affirmation, but sometimes all it takes is a wink or a nod from some unexpected place to vary the tedium of a baffling existence.

Considering the way the world is, one happy day is almost a miracle.

On a day like today I am stung by the splendor of a sudden thought.

There are moments on earth when the Lord smiles at the unexpected sweetness of His creation.

Coincidences are God's way of getting our attention.

It began, as many good things do, with a coincidence.

Maybe that's what life is... a wink of the eye and winking stars.

For one wild, glad moment we snapped the chain that binds us to earth, and joining hands with the winds we felt ourselves divine.

2 November. This morning, for the first time in a long time, the joy again of imagining a knife twisted in my heart.

And it was a most remarkable, a most moving glance, as if for a moment a lighthouse had looked at me.

Those who God gives wings arrive to him smiling.

In moments of surprise we catch at least a glimpse of the joy to which gratefulness opens the door.

It's a miracle to realize that somebody loves you.

To smile at God.
