We are all the pieces of what we remember. We hold in ourselves the hopes and fears of those who love us. As long as there is love and memory, there is no true loss.

And how could we endure to live and let time pass if we were always crying for one day or one year to come back — if we did not know that every day in a life fills the whole life with expectation and memory and that these are that day?

Our life is a hope which is continually converting itself into memory and memory in its turn begets hope.

To remember the past is to see that we are here today by grace, that we have survived as a gift.
