saw the power of the darkness. Saw that, in fact, I had strayed and that I was a stray and that from the wild places my straying had brought me, I knew things I couldn’t have known before.

I got lost in the night, without the light
of your eyelids, and when the night surrounded me
I was born again: I was the owner of my own darkness.

Once I knew the depth where no hope was, and darkness lay on the face of all things. Then love came and set my soul free.

I wanted to run away from everything but I wanted to run towards something too. Don't you see, dear, how it was?

Running from the birds to what, I didn't know. I ran. Why was I here at all? I ran through the night, ran within myself. Ran.

I'd finally come to understand what *it* had been: a yearning for a way out, when actually what I had wanted to find was a way in.

What darkness to you is light to me

I let go. Lost in oblivion. Dark and silent and complete. I found freedom. Losing all hope was freedom.

And I say to myself: a moon will rise from my darkness.

This thing of darkness I
Acknowledge mine.

I am the shade. Through the dolent city, i flee. Through the eternal woe, i take flight..

Freedom, I found is not only in the running but in the heart, the mind, the hands.

to look inward
and found a universe
