Sometimes when I ask people to tell me their story they tell me about their achievements, what they have acquired or built over a lifetime. So many of us do not know our own story. A story about who we are, not what we have done. About what we have faced to build what we have built, what we have drawn upon and risked to do it, what we have felt, thought, feared, and discovered through the events of our lives. The real story that belongs to us alone.

The story is told of yourself.

But how could you live and have no story to tell?

Life is not what one lived, but what One remembers and how One remembers it in order to recount it

To see that your life is a story while you're in the middle of living it may be a help to living it well.

You change your life at the same pace you change the story you tell yourself about it

Do stories, apart from happening, being, have something to say? For all my skepticism, some trace of irrational superstition did survive in me, the strange conviction, for example, that everything in life that happens to me also has a sense, that it means something, that life speaks to us about itself through its story, that it gradually reveals a secret, that it takes the form of a rebus whose message must be deciphered, that the stories we live compromise the mythology of our lives and in that mythology lies the key to truth and mystery. Is it an illusion? Possibly, even probably, but I can’t rid myself of the need continually to decipher my own life.

imagine yourself as the main character of the movie that is your life. A movie like your life hasn’t been made yet, and a book like your life hasn’t been written yet. And that’s why you have the creative freedom in your hands to write it as you want, make it as bold and wild as you want, keep it as long as you can, and above all make it about yourself rather than following an old pattern that doesn’t empower you. You don’t want to play the role of victim in your own life. You don’t want to see yourself crying for someone you never had. You don’t want to victimize your character.

Your life story would not make a good book. Don’t even try.

Do not tell people how to live their lives. Just tell them stories and they will figure out how those stories apply to them.

Story is metaphor for life.

Your story is not to be written as a novel you are a collection of the people you’ve become and the people you’ve yet to be a series of stories told in sequence sometimes with rhyme and sometimes without reason a neverending exploration of every corner of your potential please don’t worry if you cannot converge your old selves you are not meant to understand them you are only meant to set them free

About the only value the story of my life may have is to show that one can, even without any particular gifts, overcome obstacles that seem insurmountable if one is willing to face the fact that they must be overcome; that, in spite of timidity and fear, in spite of a lack of special talents, one can find a way to live widely and fully. Perhaps the most important thing that has come out of my life is the discovery that if you prepare yourself at every point as well as you can, with whatever means you may have, however meager they may seem, you will be able to grasp opportunity for broader experience when it appears. Without preparation you cannot do it. The fatal thing is the rejection. Life was meant to be lived, and curiosity must be kept alive. One must never, for whatever reason, turn his back on life.
