Ingratitude is amongst them a capital crime, as we read it to have been in some other countries: for they reason thus; that whoever makes ill-returns to his benefactor, must needs be a common enemy to the rest of the mankind, from where he has received no obligations and therefore such man is not fit to live.

Manners require time, and nothing is more vulgar than haste.

Being right too soon is socially unacceptable.

In giving too much weight to prudence one doesn’t make enough allowance for the possibility of good luck.

This condemnation of technology is ingratitude, that's what it is. Blind alley, though. If someone's ungrateful and you tell him he's ungrateful, okay, you've called him a name. You haven't solved anything.

If you and I go around grumbling about ingratitude, who is to blame? Is it human nature — or is it our ignorance of human nature? Let’s not expect gratitude. Then, if we get some occasionally, it will come as a delightful surprise. If we don’t get it, we won’t be disturbed. Here is the first point I am trying to make in this chapter: It is natural for people to forget to be grateful; so, if we go around expecting gratitude, we are headed straight for a lot of heartaches.

He who is too busy doing good finds no time to be good.

To hurry is to neglect that environment and to be conscious only of something that is still out of sight down the road, or of mere obstacles, or solely of oneself

There is so much to love and to admire in this life that it is an act of ingratitude not to be happy and content in this existence.
