My pain may be the reason for somebody's laugh.
But my laugh must never be the reason for somebody's pain.

I think about the meaning of pain. Pain is personal. It really belongs to the one feeling it. Probably the only thing that is your own. I like mine.

Look into your own heart, discover what it is that gives you pain and then refuse, under any circumstance whatsoever, to inflict that pain on anybody else.

Nobody has the right to remove any single experience from another. Life and death are promised. We have a right to pain.

Pain is the most individualizing thing on earth. It is
true that it is the great common bond as well, but that
realization comes only when it is over. To suffer is to
be alone. To watch another suffer is to know the barrier
that shuts each of us away by himself. Only individuals
can suffer.

But I have come to understand that nobody can really take away all the pain no matter how close. There are times when each of us must bear the burden of loss alone, and in his or her own way. The people who really understand that are the people carrying those burdens, too.

We can never judge the lives of others, because each person knows only their own pain and renunciation.

"And a woman spoke, saying, "Tell us of Pain."
And he said: Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.
Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.
And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy;
And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields.
And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief.
Much of your pain is self-chosen.
It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.
Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquillity:
For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen,
And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been fashioned of the clay which the
Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears."

…as though, capable themselves of suffering, they granted no reality to the suffering of others. ‘The subject exhibited a pain response.’ But not, under any circumstances, <i>we hurt her</i>.

No pain can be greater than the pain of one person. [...] In other words, no suffering can be greater than that of one human being. [...} The whole planet cannot suffer more than a lone soul.

Other people’s actions are the result of their own pain and not the result of any intention to hurt you.

I know that pain is the one nobility / upon which Hell itself cannot encroach
