The world, dear Agnes, is a strange affair.

I look at the world and I see absurdity all around me. People do strange things constantly, to the point that, for the most part, we manage not to see it.

For me the world is weird because it is stupendous, awesome, mysterious, unfathomable; my interest has been to convince you that you must assume responsibility for being here, in this marvelous world, in this marvelous desert, in this marvelous time. I want to convince you that you must learn to make every act count, since you are going to be here for only a short while, in fact, too short for witnessing all the marvels of it.

Odd things happen to all of us on our way through life without our noticing for a time that they have happened.

This whole world is wild at heart and weird on top.

It's a strange world. Some people get rich and others eat shit and die.

Life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent. We would not dare to conceive the things which are really mere commonplaces of existence. If we could fly out of that window hand in hand, hover over this great city, gently remove the roofs, and and peep in at the queer things which are going on, the strange coincidences, the plannings, the cross-purposes, the wonderful chains of events, working through generations, and leading to the most outre results, it would make all fiction with its conventionalities and foreseen conclusions most stale and unprofitable.

Our ways are not your ways, and there shall be to you many strange things

There's lots of things you don't know. All kinds of strange things . . . mostly they happened before we were born: that makes them seem to me so much more real.

People's lives take them strange places. They do strange things, and... well, sometimes they can't talk about them.

Things that have never happened before happen all the time.

This is how the world ends, I think, everything crazy yet people doing normal things.

The world stands on absurdities, and without them perhaps nothing at all would happen.

Because I think to myself, even today, how can the world in all its chaos come up with so many coincidences, so many similarities and exact opposites?
