Language disguises thought.

Language disguises the thought; so that from the external form of the clothes one cannot infer the form of the thought they clothe, because the external form of the clothes is constructed with quite another object than to let the form of the body be recognized.

Language can be very adept at hiding the truth.

There are no simple words. I don't know why I thought I could hide anything behind language.

There are some that only employ words for the purpose of disguising their thoughts.

Till we come to try to put our own thoughts upon paper, we can have no notion how broke and imperfect they are, or find where the imperfection lies. Words do not express thoughts very well. They always become a little different immediately after they are expressed, a little distorted, a little foolish.

But if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.

In practice, language is always more or less vague, so that what we assert is never quite precise.
