Pain is the most individualizing thing on earth. It is
true that it is the great common bond as well, but that
realization comes only when it is over. To suffer is to
be alone. To watch another suffer is to know the barrier
that shuts each of us away by himself. Only individuals
can suffer.

In real pain we have no other choice but to learn to ask for help and on a daily basis. Pain tells us we belong and cannot live forever alone or in isolation. Pain makes us understand reciprocation.

Each person feels pain in his own way, each has his own scars.

Pain is strange. A cat killing a bird, a car accident, a fire.... Pain arrives, BANG, and there it is, it sits on you. It's real. And to anybody watching, you look foolish. Like you've suddenly become an idiot. There's no cure for it unless you know somebody who understands how you feel, and knows how to help.

Be completely aware of your pain, but don’t allow it to define who you are. Pain is an emotion that passes.

Pain is truth; all else is subject to doubt.

What pain do you want in your life?

Perhaps pain is like a name,
Made to sing just for you.

...just remember, darling, it is pain that changes our lives.

Pain serves a purpose. Without it you are in danger. What you cannot feel you cannot take care of.

What pain do you want in your life? What are you willing to struggle for?

Is there anything more intimate or more internal than pain?

For it is just this question of pain that parts
us. So long as visible or audible pain turns you sick; so long as your own
pains drive you; so long as pain underlies your propositions about
sin, — so long, I tell you, you are an animal, thinking a little less obscurely
what an animal feels.

Remember, pain serves a purpose.
