Your identity does not have to be cohesive. Your story doesn’t have to flow. You don’t have to be neatly packaged in a way that other people understand. You have to stop living for your synopsis, the summary we try to piece together in our minds when we imagine people explaining us or evaluating who we are. It doesn’t have to make sense. You’re allowed to be great at a lot of things that don’t necessarily relate to one another. You’re not limited to just one purpose, one talent, one love. You can have a variety of jobs, each of them meaningful at the time you have them. You can be good at a lot of things without lacking in others. You do not have to be a novel; you can be a book of stories.

Your story is not to be written as a novel you are a collection of the people you’ve become and the people you’ve yet to be a series of stories told in sequence sometimes with rhyme and sometimes without reason a neverending exploration of every corner of your potential please don’t worry if you cannot converge your old selves you are not meant to understand them you are only meant to set them free

You can use your story, or your story can use you.

Don't be 'a writer'. Be writing.

Without stories, we wouldn't be human beings at all

If you travel long enough, every story becomes a novel.

The first thing you need to know about yourself is that you are not a story.

A real book is not one that we read, but one that reads us.

Just stories. You and me, everybody, we’re a set of stories, and what those stories are is what makes us what we are.

Other people's stories may become part of your own, the foundation of it, the ground it goes on.

Any fool can tell a story. Take a few odds and ends of things that happen to you, dress them up, shuffle them about, add a dash of excitement, a little color, and there you have it.

There's my life, why not, it is one, if you like, if you must, I don't say no, this evening. There has to be one, it seems, once there is speech, no need of a story, a story is not compulsory, just a life, that's the mistake I made, one of the mistakes, to have wanted a story for myself whereas life alone is enough.
